Kelmscott Senior High School (SHS) is seeking an inspirational, innovative, and passionate Program Coordinator for Music, to lead the Kelmscott SHS music program to become the envy of the region. This is your opportunity to lead all aspects of the Specialist and General programs to develop the school’s reputation as a centre for teaching and learning excellence.
We are looking for a Music Program Coordinator that will ideally:
1. Assess and review the current offerings and adapt them to attract more students into the Specialist and General music program.
2. Be flexible and able to participate in rehearsals, performances, camps, and tours.
3. Co-ordinate up to 11 Instrumental Music School (IMSS) teachers
4. Introduce a Certificate III in Music into Upper school in 2025 and have capacity to teach this.
5. Lead a dedicated group of music staff to realise the potential of themselves, the students, and the community.
6. Lead the changes required to achieve all of the above.
Currently both general and specialist music subjects are offered in lower school, with Australian Tertiary Admission Rank (ATAR) Music being offered in upper school. Kelmscott SHS has a highly regarded Western Art Music-based program, with graduates frequently pursuing further study and careers in music. The Specialist Music Program runs through Years 7 to 10, with students moving into ATAR Music or Instrumental and Ensemble Music (PIMS) in Upper School. This is supported by a variety of instrumental ensembles including: Jazz, Guitar, Strings, Concert Band, Percussion and Voice. Choir is in integral part of the program with three levels of choir and rehearsals for both choir and ensembles occurring outside of school hours.
The general music pathway is an area to be further developed, currently this pathway concludes at Year 8. With a rich culture of music, including both instrumental and voice in the school, there is much potential to expand this pathway.
The specialist program offers a broad range of speciality instruments including voice, viola, violin, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, euphonium, tuba, cello, clarinet, flute, guitar, bassoon, double bass, oboe and percussion. A small number of specialist students also take private instrument lessons, currently this is in the area of piano.
