About the Role
The TechnicalSupportEngineer plays a key role within VDI's Product and Technical group, working closely with the National Product and New Technologies Manager. This position supports the quality, performance, and technical integrity of VDI's bus portfolio and acts as a critical interface between VDI, OEM partners, dealer and service networks, and customers.
The role provides handson and analytical engineering support across documentation, data analysis, diagnostics, field support, local assembly, and new product introduction, contributing to vehicle readiness, inservice reliability, and ongoing fleet performance.
Key Responsibilities
* Support the development and maintenance of technical documentation, service information, and product data
* Analyse fleet, diagnostic, and telematics data to identify trends, issues, and improvement opportunities
* Assist with investigation, root cause analysis, and resolution of technical and product quality concerns
* Provide handson field and workshop support, including diagnostics, CAN bus analysis, and technical troubleshooting
* Support local assembly activities and new product introductions, including engineering reviews and configuration support
* Work closely with dealers, customers, and OEM partners to ensure clear and timely technical communication
* Support continuous improvement initiatives across VDI's product lifecycle
* Domestic travel is required to VDI workshops, third-party workshops and customer sites to support urgent technical concerns. Overseas travel may be required to liaise with Yutong (China) and attend relevant industry events.
Skills and Experiences
* Recent Graduate/up to 2years' experience with a Degree in Electrical, Mechatronics, Mechanical, Automotive Engineering, or a related discipline
* Experience within automotive, heavy vehicle, or bus and coach engineering environments
* Strong understanding of vehicle systems, electronic controls, diagnostics, and CAN bus tools
* Experience producing and maintaining technical documentation, undertaking data analysis, and tracking technical or quality issues through to resolution
* Ability to interpret engineering data, service information, and telematics outputs to identify trends, performance variations, and emerging issues
* Strong problem-solving capability with a practical, hands‐on approach suited to workshop and field‐based environments
* Competence in basic CAD modelling and design review using tools such as CATIA, SolidWorks, or similar
* Strong written and verbal communication skills with a disciplined and structured approach to documentation
* Exposure to Zero Emission vehicle technology, including battery systems, high‐voltage safety, and EV components, is desirable.
* Experience with vehicle software data management, calibration, or firmware handling is desirable.
* Knowledge of ADRs, vehicle technical specifications, or heavy vehicle compliance frameworks is advantageous.
* Relevant trade background, such as heavy vehicle mechanic or diesel fitting, will be highly regarded.
