My client is a global innovator of highly complex medical/healthcare devices looking for an experienced Manager to provide prototyping services to the product design and other teams in the technology development department, using tool room equipment and rapid prototyping machines.

A publicly listed ASX200 medical devices company, that develops, manufactures and commercialises a range of unique healthcare related solutions for an international client base.
**The Role**
In this Workshop & Prototyping Manager role, you'll report to the Mechanical Engineering Manager and be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Workshop & Prototyping function. You will also lead, manage, and coach a small team of Workshop & Prototyping Technicians who provide reactive and proactive services to the business.
Key responsibilities:
- Lead day to day Workshop & Prototyping function in both reactive/proactive services to the wider company- Provide first line management & leadership to a team of Mechanical, Industrial design or Workshop staff in support of the ME/IDHF Manager- Responsible for management of activities that relate to professional development, training and staff wellbeing
- Provide prototyping services to the product design and other teams in the technology development department, using tool room equipment and rapid prototyping machines
- Build prototypes, fixtures and equipment as specified by designers and engineers
- Assist designers and engineers in specifying parts to suit the available machines
- Maintain workshop equipment
- Work with external manufacturing vendors to develop prototype and production solutions to reduce cost and lead time
- Develop prototyping and manufacturing methodologies to improve in-house capabilities and capacity
- Support departments within the business relating to their workshop and prototyping needs
**Skills and experience**- 10 - 15 years of hands-on working experience in an engineering workshop as a machinist or toolmaker (Cert III Eng - Mech Trade (Fitter/Machinist))- Trade qualifications in the use of mechanical workshop equipment- Ability to read, interpret and produce detailed component drawings with understanding of tolerances- Ability to manage workshop job throughput via workflow management systems- Ability to assess capital investment opportunities for the purchase & ROI of recent workshop and prototyping equipment- CNC machine programming, operating and setting skills and conventional machining skills to fine tolerances- Proficiency with mechanical workshop equipment and techniques- Practical knowledge of using quality control measuring instruments- Comprehensive understanding of mechanical design engineering, CAD modelling, and product design for manufacture- Able to develop and implement ideas into CAD models using 3D CAD- Experience in leading technical staff
