We are looking for:

We are seeking an enthusiastic Flood and Drainage Engineer who will deliver a high level of engineering technical services in the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of drainage infrastructure. The role also coordinates and provides technical support for Floodplain Management functions, including operation of the Council's Flood Warning Network, running of Council Floodplain Management Committees, and flooding advice to the Sustainable Environment and Economy Directorate.


Key responsibilities

* Support Utilities staff with the preparation and operation of urban drainage maintenance programmes, including annual drainage system performance reports, and support Works operations staff with rural drainage maintenance programmes.
* Prepare and operate urban and rural drainage capital renewal programmes, including business cases, estimated project costs and expenditure under the Council's Stormwater Levy budget.
* Prepare effective flood studies, floodplain management studies and floodplain management plans in accordance with the NSW Floodplain Development Manual.
* Coordinate the operation and maintenance of the Council's Flood Warning Network and Disaster Dashboard, supporting the Local Emergency Management Officer and SES during disaster operations.
* Develop and undertake flood awareness and community education in relation to floodplain management.
* Prepare specifications, tenders, RFQs and contract documents for materials or works, analyse tenders and report recommendations.
* Ensure all relevant legislation is complied with, minimise public risk and apply risk management to deliver drainage maintenance activities and develop capital project programs.

Location

This position is based at Mullumbimby; the Council may require you to work from other sites as operationally required.
