The Advisor to the Commissioner plays a pivotal role in shaping SAPOL’s strategic direction through leadership and a distinguished record of service delivery. With a proven ability to deliver insightful and influential policy advice, the Advisor drives the development of systems and capabilities that position SAPOL to anticipate and respond to emerging priorities and future challenges.
Working closely with the Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner, you will play a key role in SAPOL’s strategic planning, collaborating with stakeholders across the organisation, government, law enforcement, and wider justice sector. You will lead the development and implementation of legislative and policy initiatives that enhance public safety and organisational effectiveness, which includes preparing and delivering regular personal performance assessments to the government, managing and organising briefings for the Commissioner and coordinating accurate and consistent Board papers and critical issue advice.
With a proven ability to deliver insightful and influential policy advice, you will drive the development of systems and capabilities that position SAPOL to anticipate and respond to emerging priorities and future challenges. You will have a contemporary knowledge of the political, social, economic, criminal justice and organisational contexts and their implications for policing, and possess exemplary senior policy, research and performance reporting skills, highlighting the need for superior verbal and written communication abilities and exceptional interpersonal skills.
The ability to analyse and conceptualise problems, formulate and execute appropriate solutions, and negotiate successful outcomes will be paramount to your success in this role, as will be effective management and leadership skills, including the ability to coordinate the work of your team while driving a high-performance culture.
Special conditions for this role include the possibility of out-of-hours work and frequent planned intra- and interstate travel. Employment is dependent upon satisfactory security clearance and criminal and probity history checks.
