Job Description Location : Sydney Role Benefit: True seat at the table as founding CFO; Shape financial strategy for multi-entity group; Build your legacy alongside respected industry leaders Role Overview / Description Reporting directly to the founding Directors, this inaugural CFO role represents a rare opportunity to architect the financial foundations of a thriving construction and property group. With multiple entities spanning construction, development, funds management, and remedial services, you'll design and implement the financial architecture that transforms founder-led success into enterprise-scale maturity. This is not a traditional CFO role managing existing systems - it's a transformational leadership position where you'll build from scratch. You'll establish integrated reporting frameworks, implement group-wide financial governance, optimise tax and entity structures, and create the financial clarity that empowers the founders to lead from vision rather than operate in the weeds. The CFO will be the strategic partner to the founders, balancing deep operational finance expertise with the ability to navigate entrepreneurial environments. Your success will be measured by your ability to build trust with the founders, deliver financial transparency across all entities, and create a roadmap for intergenerational wealth that protects and grows shareholder value over the next decade. Because success in construction is "won and lost on the project", this CFO must understand project-based accounting, WIP management, construction finance, and development feasibility at a granular level - while also providing helicopter-view strategic guidance to the ownership group. Responsibilities Enterprise Financial Architecture: Design and implement integrated group finance structures that optimise tax efficiency, risk management, and shareholder protection Strategic Finance & Growth: Define financial strategy and capital structure to support five-year growth trajectory and enable new project pipelines Treasury & Capital Management: Oversee banking, debt facilities, bonds, working capital, and liquidity across multiple entities Construction & Development Finance: Lead project accounting, feasibility analysis, margin tracking, and commercial finance for major developments Governance & Risk: Implement governance, compliance, and risk frameworks covering financial controls, audit, and statutory reporting Systems & Technology: Drive ERP integration, reporting automation, and business intelligence dashboards for real-time performance visibility Leadership: Mentor and develop high-performing finance team while overseeing HR and IT functions Candidate Profile You are a CA/CPA qualified finance leader with proven CFO or senior finance leadership experience in the construction, property development, or funds management sectors. You bring deep technical expertise in project-based accounting, construction finance, tax structuring, and treasury management - combined with the strategic acumen to architect enterprise-level financial frameworks. You're equally comfortable diving into the operational details of project accounting as you are providing strategic counsel to ownership on capital allocation, entity structuring, and wealth preservation. You lead with radical transparency and authenticity, building trust through honest communication and consistent delivery. You thrive in entrepreneurial environments where you can engage in robust, direct dialogue while maintaining psychological safety. This role demands leadership agility - the ability to shift between strategic elevation and detailed execution, always grounded in evidence and data. You possess high emotional intelligence, a commitment to personal mastery, and the humility to develop others while driving excellence across the finance function. The Company This is a highly respected, founder-led construction and property group with over 15 years of sustained growth and industry recognition. Operating across residential, mixed-use, and commercial construction, with expanding property development and funds management operations, the group has established a reputation for technical excellence, quality delivery, and authentic partnerships. Recent years have seen significant expansion including interstate operations, major projects with tier-one clients, and the establishment of complementary business units. The founders bring deep engineering expertise combined with commercial acumen and a values-driven approach centred on transparency, integrity, and community impact. This CFO appointment signals the group's transition to institutional-level financial maturity while preserving its entrepreneurial culture and commitment to lifelong partnerships.
