Primary objective
Provide advice and executive support for the governance, development and implementation of agency strategy, policy and projects
including high level stakeholder management and communications, reporting and executive secretariat support.
Context statement
The Education Regulation work unit, within Quality Standards and Regulation division, contributes to quality education services across
the Northern Territory (NT). Working with Australian and Northern Territory Government departments and external stakeholders and
agencies, the unit regulates non-government schools, international education, home education, eligible options and prosecution of non-
attendance under the Education Act 2015 (NT) and other applicable NT and Commonwealth legislation, policy and standards.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Administer education regulation and compliance programs and activities.
1. Provide secretariat, procurement and other high-level administrative services to support regulatory functions across the work unit.
2. Support complex strategic projects including initiatives arising from Cabinet, ensuring alignment to outcomes through evaluation
practices, and provide progress reporting as required.
4. Coordinate, research and prepare high level briefs, submissions, reports and correspondence to enable to Minister, Chief Executive
and Deputy Chief Executive to carry out their functions effectively.
5. Liaise effectively and professionally with internal staff at all levels within the department, as well as external stakeholders, ensuring
appropriate information access, management and use.
6. Coordinate information collation, analysis and reporting to ensure, accurate, and reliable program and performance activity
information.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrated experience in project management, monitoring and analysis experience including high-level ability to investigate,
manage and report on complex issues, evaluate associated benefits, and recommend strategies including strong organisational skills,
excellent data capture and analysis capability and the ability to respond flexibility to changing priorities.
1. Demonstrated high level written communication, reporting, interpersonal skills and demonstrated experience in the preparation of
strategic advice and support, briefings, detailed reports and other correspondence.
1. Demonstrated ability to work independently to a high standard, problem solve and to provide effective leadership within a small team
to lead and manage a variety of strategic tasks in a complex environment and meet deadlines within time constraints
1. Demonstrated ability to confidently build and maintain effective networks, undertake consultation and liaison with a range of internal
and external stakeholders.
1. Demonstrated ability to interact effectively with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds.
Desirable
1. Contemporary knowledge of relevant legislation, policies and procedures.
2. Knowledge of education systems and the strategic directions and objectives of the Department of Education and Training and the
Northern Territory Government.
3. Knowledge and understanding of government and departmental processes including preparing high level reports, discussion papers
and correspondence including Ministerial and executive briefings.
