We are seeking an experienced Crane Operator to join our shipyard yard crew. As a key member of the yard team, you will work alongside colleagues on vessel haul-outs, racking, heavy lifts, and general yard operations. Your primary responsibility will be the secure and efficient operation of non-slewing crane to support vessel movements, maintenance, and shipyard activities. This role is integral to ensuring smooth yard operations and the timely movement of materials, equipment, and vessels to keep projects on schedule.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate cranes to lift, move, and position heavy loads in line with operational requirements.
- Work as part of the yard crew team, assisting with vessel haul-outs, racking, and general yard duties.
- Provide safe vessel access and support loading/unloading of equipment, machinery, and materials.
- Carry out pre-start inspections and routine maintenance checks on cranes and assigned machinery.
- Operate additional yard equipment and machinery as certified or ticketed.
- Follow strict safety procedures, site regulations, and industry best practices.
- Collaborate with riggers, doggers, supervisors, and other yard crew to deliver efficient and safe operations.
- Ensure tools, plant, and equipment are maintained in good working condition and report any faults or hazards.
- Maintain vehicles, work areas, and adjacent spaces in a neat and tidy condition.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Crane Operator, preferably in a shipyard, port, or heavy industrial setting.
- Current High-Risk Work Licence (CN, C2, C6, C1, CO, or CV) valid in Australia.
- Riggers/Doggers HRWL highly desirable.
- Construction Induction (White Card).
- Robust understanding of load charts, lifting techniques, and safety standards.
- Experience operating varied equipment and machinery.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, outdoor workplace.
- Good organisational, decision-making, and communication skills.
- Commitment to safety, environmental standards, and continuous improvement.
