Let's be honest — a lot of junior accounting roles start to blur together after a while.
Same responsibilities.
Same buzzwords.
Same vague promises about "career progression."
And somewhere in the middle of it all is "hands-on experience" — which can sometimes mean watching someone else do the interesting work for six months first.
This isn't that.
At GMD Advisory, graduate accountants are trusted with real client work early, supported properly through CA studies, and exposed to more than just compliance work. You'll build capability by actually doing it — with direct support from senior accountants who are invested in your progression.
Because while some firms seem focused on finding "rockstars," we know the real strength of a team comes from the people behind the scenes who are reliable, capable, and know how to keep things moving.
There are easier accounting jobs out there. Plenty, actually.
But if you're looking for a role where you'll grow into more than just a compliance machine, you'll probably want to keep reading.
What You'll Be Doing
This is a genuine junior-to-intermediate opportunity with exposure across compliance, client management, and advisory support — not just repetitive processing work.
You'll be involved in:
* Preparing financial statements and tax returns for individuals, companies, trusts, partnerships, and SMSFs
* Completing BAS, IAS, FBT, and PAYG obligations across a diverse client base
* Managing payroll tax and workers compensation reconciliations
* Liaising with statutory authorities and supporting clients directly
* Assisting senior staff with advisory matters and client strategy work
* Gradually building and managing your own portfolio of clients
* Working across modern cloud-based accounting systems and processes
What We're Looking For
You don't need to know everything yet — but you do need to care about doing good work, communicating well, and continuing to grow.
We're looking for someone who:
* Has 0–24 months' experience in an Australian accounting firm or commercial accounting environment
* Is degree-qualified (or close to finishing)
* Is currently completing CA studies or planning to commence
* Communicates confidently and professionally with clients and colleagues
* Takes initiative, asks questions, and backs themselves to learn
* Has strong attention to detail and organisational skills
* Brings a client-first mindset and a collaborative approach to work
* Wants a long-term opportunity with room to progress
* Has experience with Xero (helpful, but not essential)
Customer-facing experience outside accounting is also highly regarded. We value people who can build trust with clients — not just process numbers.
What You'll Get
* Competitive salary package based on experience
* Full CA support, including paid study leave and mentoring
* Tailored hands-on training from partners and senior accountants
* Regular professional development and technical training
* Exposure to a diverse and interesting client base
* Real progression opportunities within a growing boutique firm
* On-site parking
* Social events and a genuinely supportive team culture
* A modern, cloud-focused working environment
