Role and responsibilities
The Canberra Hospital (CH) Emergency Department (ED) is undergoing transformation with the Digital Health Record (DHR), Integrated Operations Centre (IOC), and a new Emergency Department within Building 5. The ED offers a contemporary environment with features including a paediatric treatment area, enhanced triage capacity with a dedicated ambulance triage zone, and a behavioural assessment unit.
The Clinical Director will provide strategic and operational leadership to the ED team, in partnership with the Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON). The role is supported by a Business Manager, three Deputy Directors (including a Paediatric Lead), and a medical workforce comprising over 40 FACEMs/FRACP-PEMs, more than 30 registrars, and junior medical officers.
Work with the Executive team to advance whole-of-organisation reform, focusing on patient flow and bed access; collaborate with the Clinical Director of the Division of Medicine and other Unit Directors for cross-unit engagement.
Represent the ED in public-facing forums, media engagements, Ministerial correspondence, public health matters, and responses to complaints or coronial investigations.
Advance the four pillars of Emergency Medicine at CHS: Education, Safety and Quality, Research, and Workforce Culture.
Participate in the Canberra Health Services Operational Committee and provide strategic direction within the scope of the role.
Support teaching and research links with ANU, University of Canberra, and Australian Catholic University; contribute to postgraduate teaching programs and leverage the hospital library resources.
Potential conjoint academic appointment with ANU at an academic level commensurate with qualifications and experience for the duration of CHS employment; no separate remuneration attached to the University position.
Prepare for duties by meeting registration, credentialing, and pre-employment requirements, including a National Police Check and compliance with the Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination policy.

Qualifications and requirements
Hold Specialist registration with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
Meet credentialing requirements and receive an Endorsed scope of clinical practice from the Medical Dental Appointments Advisory Committee (MDAAC).
Undergo a pre-employment National Police Check.
Comply with Canberra Health Services Occupational Assessment, Screening and Vaccination policy.
