Overview
Location:
10 Village Avenue, Traralgon West VIC 3844 (Latrobe Regional Hospital)
Work type:
Full Time (Permanent) 38 hours per week
Schedule:
Must be able to work on rotating roster. Flexibility to afterhours and weekend work will be considered.
About the role
We are seeking an experienced Scientist who is highly motivated to become part of a passionate, vibrant and engaged team who will be responsible for:
Perform manual and automated diagnostic testing
Perform all routine procedures from point of specimen reception to execution of results for Pathological diagnosis
Assist with stock control
Maintain compliance with records maintenance and recording of results in line with protocols
Maintain all equipment and operate equipment in line with protocols
Maintain current scientific knowledge
Participate in routine and audit related quality assurance activities
Contribute to continuous improvement and the development of new assays as required
Participate in training staff
Liaise with internal and/or external stakeholders (referring practitioners) regarding test results or referrals as necessary
Ensure compliance with Policies and Procedures, Workplace Health and Safety Procedures and Quality Assurance Processes
About you
To be considered for this position, you will need to meet the essential requirements:
Bachelor of Science, Bachelor of Applied Science (Medical Laboratory Science) or equivalent
Demonstrated experience, knowledge, expertise and skills in a multidisciplinary laboratory, including Biochemistry, Haematology and Blood bank
Morphology and Microbiology experience is desirable
Sound knowledge of QC, QAP and troubleshooting
Demonstrated ability to identify, develop and implement quality and service improvement activities in accordance with NATA/ISO accreditation/certification
Perform duties with a high degree of independence and with infrequent supervision
An outstanding commitment to quality and excellence
A willingness to adhere to departmental and organisational policies and procedures
A positive attitude toward achieving outcomes and being a cohesive, contributing team member
Strong time management, interpersonal, communication and organisational skills
The ability to cope and thrive in a busy environment
Self-initiative and problem-solving capabilities
Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
This role may require additional vaccination history and evidence for department specific vaccine preventative diseases
Note:
Vaccine preventable disease evidence such as Hepatitis B is a requirement of this role. Other vaccinations based on location may be required / setting.
