About This Opportunity The Centre Manager at the Gas & Energy Transition Research Centre / Faculty of EAIT is a senior management role that provides leadership to Centre administration staff and high-level planning, problem solving and decision-making support to the Director and Centre Executive Group. As a key point of contact, the Centre Manager maintains effective working relationships with Faculty and University staff at all levels and serves as the primary link between the Centre, UQ’s central administration—ensuring clear communication and strong collaboration with Schools, Institutes, other Faculties, and external stakeholders, including industry and research partners. The position is responsible for long-term operational planning, budget and resource management, and the coordination of core support services such as HR, risk management, stakeholder engagement, marketing and communications, IT, and facilities. Key responsibilities will include: Oversee all operational functions of the Centre, ensuring organisational and financial effectiveness in support of the Centre Director and Leadership team. Provide strategic advice to the Centre Director and Leadership team on Centre development, policy implementation, and compliance with University-wide procedures. Lead risk management efforts by advising on the identification, mitigation, and management of operational and strategic risks. Coordinate professional services, physical resources, and HR management, promoting a collaborative and inclusive workplace culture. Manage financial operations including annual budgets, forecasts, long-term planning, and budget strategy in partnership with the Faculty finance team. Direct and contribute to research initiatives by liaising with internal and external stakeholders, including the Research and Innovation division. Oversee internal and external communications, including marketing strategies, event planning, and stakeholder engagement. Undertake high-level projects for the Centre Director, often with complex or urgent requirements. This position will become vacant as the current Centre Manager will be seconded from Monday, 30 June 2025. We are seeking for a replacement until Monday,18 May 2026.This is a full-time (100%), fixed-term position at HEW Level 9. About You Essential A degree and experience in a research environment; or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training. Demonstrated ability to contribute to and work within a complex organisational environment with multiple stakeholders from industry, professionals and the academic sector. Demonstrated experience in financial management of a complex organisation and the ability to work well under pressure and constant concurrent deadlines. Accomplished communication and interpersonal skills including a demonstrated ability to liaise and consult, prepare well written reports and submissions, negotiate complex issues, manage change, and communicate with diverse groups. Demonstrated ability to work iteratively, adapting quickly to change and operating effectively both on an autonomous basis and as a member of a collaborative, client-focused team. Ability to interpret and apply University-wide policies and procedures in an effective way at the organisational unit. A demonstrated ability to lead a high-performing team of business and/or administrative professionals in role of similar size and scope. Ability to act creatively and flexibly and to take initiatives without direction within established University and Centre policies and guidelines. Desirable Demonstrated experience with funding agreements and research contracts. Demonstrated ability to interact and negotiate with senior industry management and government agencies.
