Selection Criteria

Role


An education support class position is performed in accordance with guidelines, accepted practice, and school policy under supervision and direction. Duties may include coordination of other education support class staff within the work area or educational program, supporting educational services, and supervision of students to a maximum of four in controlled circumstances while responsibility remains with a teacher.


Certification and/or qualifications of up to three years may be required at this level; for example, roles that are a first level for Registered Nurses (Level 1 range 3). This role may include specific support tasks, assisting teachers, supervised health and wellbeing support tasks, technical tasks, and coordination of work areas.



Responsibilities

* Provides routine support for teachers including assisting with planning of student routines.

* Supports communication between teachers and parents.

* Communicates with teachers on routine matters related to students and/or other responsibilities.

* Provides basic physical care and wellbeing support for students such as toileting, meals, and lifting.

* Communicates with students to support comprehension of basic tasks and information.

* Addresses immediate behavioural presentations relating to specific students within a classroom setting aligned to school policy and procedure.

* Provides basic support and supervision for individuals or groups of up to four students within a classroom setting.

* Supports teachers in the coordination of educational programs independently or under minimal supervision, including rostering and organising the work of a team of aides, providing routine co‑ordination, guidance, and support to other student support staff, liaising with external providers of support services about clearly defined support needs and resources, assisting teachers with the communication of student outcomes and educational programs.

* Provides medical intervention support to a student or students, under specific conditions, with appropriate training and guidance.

* Provides specialised communication support for students and teachers in areas such as AUSLAN and braille.

Other Information


Term 1 position only – 2 days per week. There may be an opportunity for extension of the contract.

Lismore Primary School is a small, co‑educational primary school located in Lismore, Victoria approximately 75 kilometres from Ballarat, 100 kilometres from Geelong and 100 kilometres from Warrnambool.

Lismore Primary School has a current enrolment of 27 students split across two classrooms: a Foundation to Grade 2 class and a Grade 3 to 6 class. Staffing consists of a total of 2.4 FTE teaching staff, including a Mental Health and Wellbeing Leader (0.5 FTE); a Business Manager (FTE 0.26); Grounds Maintenance (FTE 0.08) and Education Support (FTE 1.19). The school's SFOE band is 'high'. Specialist classes are provided in The Arts, Auslan, PE and Library.
