The Opportunity:
We’re seeking an experienced and values driven Inhouse Trades & Apprentice Manager to lead, coordinate and support our inhouse trade workforce, including apprentices. You’ll play a pivotal role in building our internal construction capability, ensuring our trade crews operate safely, efficiently and to a high standard, while nurturing the next generation of qualified tradespeople.
This role is ideal for a skilled construction leader with a growth mindset and a natural ability for coaching people, thrives on operational excellence, and is passionate about social impact.
What you’ll do
Trade Crew Oversight:
• Coordinate and schedule inhouse trade crews aligned to project timelines, budgets and quality expectations.
• Monitor performance, productivity and workmanship standards across multiple job sites.
• Support the Construction Manager with resource planning and day-to-day workflow.
• Mentor Senior Trades as people leaders for apprentices.
Workforce Development & Growth
• Develop strategies to strengthen SJAH’s inhouse trade workforce.
• Provide regular performance/productivity reporting and drive continuous improvement.
Apprenticeship Support & Mentorship
• Work closely with Trades and wellbeing support services to help apprentices become independent, qualified tradespeople by the end of their training contracts.
• Balance competing factors of site productivity and tailored individual learning to improve life skills alongside trade skill development.
• Forecast apprenticeship needs based on pipeline and workforce planning.
• Foster a culture of learning, safety and long-term career pathways.
• Provide constructive feedback and on-the-job mentoring aligned to formal training.
Communication & Stakeholder Engagement
• Represent SJAH professionally with staff, apprentices and external partners.
• Contribute to planning meetings, training and organisational activities.
• Prepare clear, timely documentation including reports and performance updates.
About you:
• Proven experience leading trade teams in a construction environment.
• Strong capability in project scheduling, material coordination and resource planning.
• Demonstrated experience coaching and mentoring apprentices/young people through challenging situations.
• Sound knowledge of WHS legislation and safe work practices.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a solutions focus.
• Relevant trade qualification preferred (not essential). Qualifications in construction management and/or training highly regarded.

• Current Working with Vulnerable People Registration (Tasmania)
• National Police Criminal History Check
