Aboriginal and Islander Education Officer
This is a 6 month fixed term, part-time (0.4FTE) position commencing Term 3, 2026.
Warnbro Primary School is an outer suburban school situated near the white sands and calm blue waters of Warnbro Beach. It is an Independent Public School catering for children from Kindergarten to Year 6. Established in 1973, it has a rich history and traditions spanning over 50 years, serving approximately 265 students.
Role
The Aboriginal and Islander Education Officer (AIEO) is a support role that assists teachers in delivering planned education programmes and encouraging a supportive and inclusive learning environment for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
Responsibilities
* Assist teachers in delivering planned education programmes.
* Encourage a supportive and inclusive learning environment for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
* Act as a liaison between the community and the school to develop an educational programme relevant to both educational and cultural needs.
* Provide mentoring and pastoral care to encourage participation and achievement at school.
* Design and implement behaviour management plans.
* Maintain records and provide information to parents.
* Facilitate community contribution to the formulation of school policies on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture.
* Conduct interviews or home liaison visits.
* Manage class resources and assist with preparation and maintenance of the learning environment.
Eligibility and Requirements
* Must be Aboriginal, as per section 50d of the Equal Opportunity Act 1984 (WA).
* Must be an Australian or New Zealand citizen, permanent resident, or have a valid visa with relevant work rights for the term of the appointment.
* Must obtain a valid Working With Children Check before the start.
* Must consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education's Screening Unit before the start.
