About The Division And Role
Victorian Planning and Connections is accountable for planning the transmission system, making network investment decisions and connecting new generators and loads in Victoria, and ensuring these investments don't adversely impact the power system as a whole.
The department plays a key role in successfully navigating the energy future by determining and procuring investment in the best interest of consumers, and by acting as a trusted advisor for Victorian Government.
This role provides planning and modelling expertise to the Victorian Government, advising on primary and secondary technical options for major transmission projects to support safe, secure and reliable supply. It includes independent work, close collaboration with government, and coordination of consultants and contractors as needed.
The position has the flexibility to be based out of any of our offices in Australia – Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide, Perth & Hobart.
What You Will Be Doing
Support network investment decisions through workshops, scoping, and technical advice on option analysis.
Undertake transmission network simulations to identify capabilities and emerging limitations.
Conduct power system studies to assess technical viability of preferred options or required supporting plant.
Interpret and justify simulation results, providing clear recommendations on network adequacy and investment options.
Prepare high-quality written and verbal outputs, including reports, presentations, briefing papers, and planning documents (VAPR, RIT-T).
What You Will Bring To The Role
Education/Certificates
Tertiary qualifications in Electrical Engineering and 5+ years of relevant industry experience with a discipline relevant to power systems.
Experience in electricity transmission network planning across jurisdictional, short, medium and long term horizons.
Proficiency with network analysis tools (PSS/E, PowerFactory, PSCAD) and interpreting technical studies.
Proven experience leading technical work packages.
Strong understanding of transmission system operation, energy markets, and cost–benefit assessment of projects.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to negotiate and provide clear recommendations to stakeholders.
Ability to produce high-quality reports for senior management; knowledge of AEMO's role, market frameworks and relevant regulations. (Data analytics skills such as SQL/Power BI/Excel/R are highly desirable.)
