* $ 77,703 to $ 89,602 per annum (HEO5)
* Plus 17% employer superannuation

About the role
The Technical Officer will provide specialised technical expertise to support innovative research within our Meat Science group. Working closely with our meat science and sensory research teams, you'll play a vital role in delivering both technical and operational support that enables cutting-edge research outcomes.
In this varied role, you'll provide hands-on technical assistance, guide the planning and coordination of sensory research projects, and ensure the smooth day-to-day operations of the team. Reporting to the Head of the Meat Science research team, you'll be an essential contributor to our research success.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will have knowledge of meat processing and sample collection, or the ability to quickly develop these skills. You'll bring experience with specialist laboratory analysis, including sensory testing and quality control procedures, along with strong data management capabilities. With excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently, you'll deliver reliable results while using a range of software for data handling and statistical analysis. Most importantly, you'll be a collaborative team player who can work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
About the Discipline
Animal Science falls within the School of Environmental and Rural Science (ERS), a research-intensive School that attracts outside and internal competitive funding to support research at the leading edge of agricultural, biological, ecological and geological research nationally and internationally. The School spans six disciplines: Agronomy and Soil Science, Animal Science, Botany, Earth Sciences, Ecosystem Management and Zoology. UNE has long maintained a research and teaching strength in all aspects of Animal Science, including Meat Science - an area that attracts considerable industry funding, and for which there remains a strong need. UNE has excellent facilities for research that provide significant comparative advantage in this space.
