Come and join us here in Bega – it’s great! An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and qualified Oncologist to join the medical team at South East Regional Hospital in the Bega Valley, part of the Southern NSW - Coastal Network.

Bega - 429 kilometres south of Sydney, 228 kilometres from Canberra or 174 kilometres from the NSW Snow fields. Nearby Merimbula (32 kilometres) offers a regional airport with a short 55 minute flight to Sydney and daily flights to Melbourne. Your Opportunity:

- Provide high quality, evidence based, patient focused medical oncology services to patients with solid tumour cancers in the Bega Valley.
- Participate in specialist multidisciplinary team meetings, ensuring where possible that complex patient cases, and cases which fall outside the medical oncologist's sub-specialisation, are presented at multidisciplinary team meetings prior to a decision on disease management and commencement of treatment. Lead the development of processes and resources to enrol eligible patients into clinical trials, including establishing relationships with tertiary clinical trials units.
- Lead and participate in relevant research and safety and quality projects to guide service improvement, including participation in mortality and morbidity meetings, monitoring of clinical risk, and ensuring services are compliant with the Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Healthcare standards, Work Health & Safety Act and NSW Health Risk management frameworks.
- Participate in formal and informal peer review and other Continuing Medical Education activities consistent with College and Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) requirements to maintain skilled standards.
- Provide oversight of care when not on site, including but not limited to remaining available and responsive to telephone calls and emails from the oncology unit regarding patient care, care plan approvals, dosing adjustments, toxicity and side effect management, prioritization, triage and scheduling.
- Ensure the routine use of SNSWLHD electronic clinical management systems, including comprehensive documentation of patient care in the MOSAIQ oncology management information system to accurately reflect clinical decisions regarding disease management and patient care, and electronic chemotherapy prescribing via MOSAIQ for all new courses of treatment.
- Provide training and education to the local oncology team including nursing and allied health clinicians and junior medical staff.
- Participate in the medical on-call roster in accordance with clinical privileges.
- Lead a process of ongoing review of existing electronic treatment protocols in line with changes to the evidence and participate as required in the development of new protocols for publishing in MOSAIQ.

Selection Criteria:

- Current Registration as a Medical Specialist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
- Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP) with subspecialty training and experience in medical oncology.
- Demonstrated ability to provide comprehensive, high quality, compassionate medical oncology services and patient care
- Recent experience working congenially and collaboratively in a specialist multidisciplinary team
- Demonstrated ability to work with local clinical teams to lead, support and improve the delivery of oncology services
- Demonstrated ability to actively improve service delivery, initiating change and consulting with those affected by change, including managing potential conflicts.
- Demonstrated commitment to leading a program of oncology education and training for local multi-disciplinary clinicians.
- Commitment to clinical research, including experience in clinical trials.
