Offer description

Your New Role

The primary role of the Tour Guide is to oversee and conduct inspiring and engaging guided tours of the Sydney Opera House for visitors who have booked as part of a group or who arrive for a day visit. Tour Guides research and plan individual tours and visitor information services to meet specific needs. They also conduct special tours for particular interest groups, such as architectural, technical, theatrical, and for those with particular disability requirements.

Tour Guides provide a supportive role for the marketing arms of Resident Companies and various Commercial Partners and actively promote Sydney Opera House products and services on all tours. They have custodial accountability for the implementation of Sydney Opera House Security and Occupational Health & Safety standards while conducting tours, providing advice and assistance when problems arise, and referring complex issues to the appropriate area of expertise.

Responsibilities

* Plan and conduct tours in English for large groups (up to 46 people) with diverse needs.
* Deliver front‐line customer service, demonstrating a commitment to service excellence in a dynamic, customer‐orientated environment.
* Communicate effectively, including public speaking, presentation, storytelling, and creativity.
* Work collaboratively with team members and independently manage challenging situations, making quick decisions and resolving customer issues.
* Manage time, prioritise tasks, and organise daily workloads.
* Attend all induction training sessions and other paid training as scheduled.
* Hold a valid Working With Children Check (WWCC) clearance.

Qualifications

Previous guiding experience is not essential; confidence presenting to a large group and providing a wonderful customer experience is required. Proficiency in French, German, Spanish or Mandarin is advantageous but not required.

Contract and Rostering

* 12‐month temporary flex‐time contracts; option to extend if required.
* No conversion to casual employment.
* Flexible average weekly hours: 13.5 hours (≈3 days/week) or 18 hours (≈4 days/week), with the possibility of up to 40 hours/week.
* At least one full weekend per 4‐week period must be worked.

Benefits

* 10% discount on onsite food and beverage outlets.
* 5 weeks of annual leave.
* Flexible working arrangements.
* Access to professional development programs and staff engagement initiatives.
* Participation in staff community groups.
* Fitness Passport and complimentary wellbeing programs (Pilates, yoga, circuit classes, physiotherapy, etc.).
* Work for an organisation with a 6‐Star Green Star Performance Rating and commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
* Complimentary tickets to shows.

Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging

We welcome applications from First Nations people, people of all genders, people who are Deaf or disabled, culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, neurodiverse, LGBTQI+, and other under‐represented groups. We are an inclusive employer who recognises that everyone is unique.
