Bayside Health was formed following the merger of Alfred Health, Bass Coast Health, Gippsland Southern Health Service, Kooweerup Regional Health Service and Peninsula Health on 1 January 2026.We are offering a one-year Fellowship in Heart Failure at a state-wide quaternary referral centre. Fellows will be trained in the pathophysiology and treatment of heart failure, cardiac transplantation and mechanical circulatory support. The individual will be expected to lead a research or quality improvement project during the year.ResponsibilitiesReceive comprehensive training in the management of heart failure patients, including outpatient and inpatient care.Participate in super‐specialist clinics for inherited, inflammatory and infiltrative cardiomyopathies.Learn to manage drug‐refractory heart failure patients and select candidates for advanced adjuncts such as resynchronisation therapy, mitral and tricuspid valve intervention, and complex ablation.Gain experience in intensive‐care management, inotrope therapy, and initiation, optimisation, and weaning of temporary mechanical circulatory support (ECMO, Impella).Develop skills in candidate selection for heart transplantation and mechanical circulatory support, including post‐operative and long‐term care of transplant patients.Become independent in performing pulmonary artery catheterisation and endomyocardial biopsies.Have opportunities to join the advanced cardiac imaging or complex pacing team for additional training.Aim to become a fully independent Heart Failure Consultant capable of working in a secondary care setting.QualificationsCompleted at least three years of Advanced Training in Clinical Cardiology in Australia or New Zealand and have completed FRACP Part 2.Hold current medical registration with AHPRA.Must be able to commit to a one‐year fellowship and lead a research or quality improvement project.Prior to application, please contact A/Prof Hitesh Patel (h.patel@alfred.org.au) or Dr Caitlin Cheshire (c.cheshire@alfred.org.au) for further information.Applications are reviewed as they are received.
