Overview
The Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC) at Edith Cowan University (ECU) is seeking expressions of interest for new members.
To support ECU's research activities, the HREC reviews research projects to ensure they meet ethical requirements as outlined by the National Statement of Ethical Conduct in Human Research, 2023 (NS).
Responsibilities
* Attend HREC meetings (first Friday of every month, ~3 hours, pm) at the Mt Lawley or Joondalup campus, with remote participation optional.
* Review applications and associated documents between meetings.
* Participate in an induction for new members and contribute to a process that allows differing views to be explored and resolved.
Qualifications and Attributes
* Ability to communicate well, listen to and appreciate diverse views, and formulate a considered opinion.
* Interest in ethics; lack of formal ethics training should not exclude candidates.
* Sufficient time to attend meetings and read proposals and related documents ahead of meetings.
* Knowledge or experience in one of the following categories is desirable:
* Knowledge of professional care, counselling, or treatment (e.g., nursing or allied health);
* Pastoral/community leadership roles (e.g., Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander elder, chaplain, or faith leader);
* Qualified lawyer (practising or non-practising);
* Broader community or consumer perspective.
Remuneration and Working Arrangements
* Renumeration of $300 per meeting.
* Meetings held at ECU campuses with remote participation available.
* Time commitment includes attendance and reviewing applications between meetings.
* Comprehensive induction provided for new members.
