Primary objective
Advise, develop, and manage a team responsible for the delivery of statutory services in accordance with relevant legislation
and Department of Corrections, Community Youth Justice policies and procedures.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Responsible for the supervision, training and development of a team of staff involved in the delivery of a range of
statutory youth justice services.
2. Undertake statutory responsibilities and exercise delegations under the Youth Justice Act in accordance with
departmental policies and procedures.
3. Review project performance and focus on identifying opportunities for continuous improvement for the work unit within
the areas of physical, financial and human resource management.
1. As a member of the Department's management team, contribute to the overall management of the office, including
continual staff development, data collection, practice standards, workload trends, program development, community
networking and consultation to achieve an integrated best practice approach to service delivery.
1. Manage relationships with service providers and key stakeholders.
2. Manage all reporting for the team, including related monitoring against targets and indicators.
3. Participate in the Department's After-Hours Service and assist in delivering the Department's statutory welfare group
responses in accordance with the Emergency Management Act.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Extensive experience in the delivery of statutory youth justice services, including experience in management, supervision
and coordination of a team.
2. Experience and/or understanding of Youth Justice functions and a highly developed ability to interpret and apply
relevant legislation into practical application.
1. Highly developed leadership and management skills with proven ability to achieve outcomes through using effective
interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to be innovative and manage change.
4. Demonstrated ability to manage human, financial and physical resources, including the ability to lead, motivate and
support staff to achieve outcomes and build effective teams.
5. Demonstrated effective oral and written skills with previous experience in preparation of high-level briefings and reports.
6. Demonstrated ability to communicate and work constructively within culturally diverse settings, including a
demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Aboriginal culture, family and community structures.
7. Highly developed engagement skills including the ability to influence and negotiate outcomes across organisational
boundaries with a diverse range of stakeholders.
Desirable
1. Tertiary qualifications in a related discipline such as Criminology and Criminal Justice, Social Work, Psychology or similar.
2. Formal qualification in management, organisational development or other relevant qualification.
