About us: Launceston City Mission (LCM) has been serving the Northern Tasmanian community since 1854, providing essential services and life-changing support to those in need. City Mission is proud to operate across approximately30 sitesin Northern and North-West Tasmania, encompassing Launceston, Devonport, and surrounding regions. Through a team of over200 staffand600 volunteers, we serve more than20,000 Tasmanians annually, offering a broad range of services including housing and homelessness support, emergency relief, community chaplaincy, mental health recovery, and social enterprise initiatives. About the role: Based in Launceston, the Chief Financial Officer will play a critical leadership role, working closely with the CEO and Senior Leadership Team to drive our strategic financial direction and ensure our financial health supports our purpose-driven work. With scope for travel across the North of the state, this is more than a finance role—it’s a chance to shape the future of a thriving organisation that’s transforming lives every day. Reporting to the CEO, the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a pivotal executive role responsible for guiding the financial stewardship and long-term sustainability of City Mission. As a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, the CFO works in close partnership with the CEO and Board to develop financial strategies that enable innovation, growth, and measurable impact. This is not a traditional finance role—it requires a visionary leader who can align financial practice with mission-driven purpose. The CFO leads a committed team and provides oversight across budgeting, compliance, reporting, capital planning, and enterprise development, while actively shaping a culture of excellence and accountability. Success in this role requires a collaborative and forward-thinking mindset, strong stakeholder engagement, and a commitment to excellence anchored in the mission and vision of Launceston City Mission. SELECTION CRITERIA Essential Qualifications/Experience: Tertiary qualifications in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline. CA or CPA professional membership. Minimum five years’ experience in senior financial leadership, ideally in the not-for-profit or mission-aligned sector. Deep experience in budgeting, forecasting, risk management, compliance, and reporting. Significant experience with financial systems and processes. Strategic mindset with the ability to translate financial vision into operational reality. Strong leadership skills with demonstrated capacity to build high-performing teams. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to manage relationships. across internal and external stakeholders. Proven ability to work effectively in a values-based organisation. National Police Check and Working with Vulnerable People registration required. Desirable Qualifications/Experience: Experience or demonstrated capacity to work in an organisation adopting a Christian ethos. Experience in organisations with social impact mission. This is a full-time position. As a Public Benevolent Institution, LCM employees are eligible to Salary Package through our approved provider.
