Senior Unified Communications Engineer
Contract duration – 12-month contract with potential extension

DFP Recruitment is currently seeking an experienced Senior Satellite Communications Engineer to support a large Federal Government client. The role is responsible for identifying business needs by documenting functional and technical requirements across hardware, processes, workflows, and operating systems—predominantly within wide area networks, data centres, and Voice and Video technologies. The team supports both project delivery and operational environments.
Role responsibilities
* Identify business needs by documenting functional and technical requirements for hardware, processes, workflows, and operating systems.
* Provide subject matter expertise on technical solutions and act as the primary technical contact for the design and implementation of Unified Communications (UC) capabilities, ensuring scalability, security, and efficiency.
* Develop and maintain UC roadmaps in collaboration with internal stakeholders, including architecture, design, and cybersecurity teams.
* Support solution design and implementation for communication, collaboration, and networking systems.
* Maintain UC systems and services, including telephony, collaboration platforms, messaging, desktop and softphones, mobile devices, PBX systems, and voice/video conferencing environments.
* Develop and maintain policies, procedures, and training plans for system administration and appropriate system use.
* Research emerging technologies—products, services, protocols, and standards—to support informed procurement and development decisions.
* Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to ensure architectural alignment and consistency across projects.
* Engage stakeholders to resolve design and security challenges, provide solutions to complex infrastructure and software issues, and deliver technical support for UC system upgrades.
* Contribute to operational strategies and best practices to enhance system performance, resilience, and reliability.
Skills
* Minimum of ten years' experience designing, deploying, and managing Unified Communications systems and solutions.
* Strong stakeholder management and client service capabilities.
* Ability to clearly articulate complex technical concepts through detailed design documentation and implementation plans.
* Broad understanding of industry trends, whole-of-government direction, and emerging technologies, with the ability to apply these to solve business problems.
* Proven experience in the day-to-day operation of UC systems, including the deployment, monitoring, troubleshooting, and optimisation of voice, video, and VoIP services.
* Strong understanding of ASD Essential Eight and experience contributing to ICT system security accreditation processes.
* Demonstrated experience with current and emerging networking and collaboration technologies.
