Do you want to help write the next chapter of our story? We are looking for a Financial Controller, ANZ based in Sydney.
The role
As the Financial Controller for Australia & New Zealand, you will oversee all aspects of financial management, corporate accounting, reporting, compliance, and tax planning for the business. You will lead the day-to-day operations of the Finance team, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and solid internal controls, while acting as a trusted business partner to leadership and local functions.
This role carries responsibility for financial reporting, FP&A;, compliance, treasury, legal, and internal controls for our three legal entities across ANZ. You will also play a key role in risk management and governance, ensuring sustainable growth and alignment with Group standards.
What you’ll do
Core Finance & Treasury
- Lead all accounting operations, including billing, AR/AP, bank processing, reconciliations, and cash management.
- Oversee full balance sheet accountability and ensure robust month-end and year-end close.
- Drive cash flow optimization, working capital management, and free cash flow delivery to meet Group requirements.
- Manage relationships with banks, ensuring effective oversight of debt facilities and transactional banking.
- Lead budgeting and forecasting processes; track variances and provide insights to management.
- Ensure timely delivery of monthly and quarterly Group reporting for all ANZ legal entities.
- Lead FP&A;, producing accurate and relevant management accounts and variance analysis for leadership.
- Oversee year-end statutory reporting, group consolidation requirements, and audit management.
- Deliver financial and business analysis to support decision-making and commercial strategies.
Compliance & Taxation
- Oversee preparation of statutory financial statements in compliance with Australian Accounting Standards.
- Ensure timely completion of tax requirements, including income tax, GST, BAS, FBT, withholding tax, and transfer pricing.
- Manage external and internal audit processes, ensuring strong alignment with Group governance.
- Oversee insurance renewals and act as the local compliance champion within the Clarins Group compliance committee.
Legal & Risk
- Provide legal counsel to the Managing Director in partnership with external counsel and Group Legal.
- Oversee all corporate legal formalities, regulatory compliance, and secretarial duties.
- Lead risk management policies in alignment with corporate and regional audit teams.
- Monitor and enforce internal control policies across business operations.
Business Partnership
- Act as a strategic partner to local leadership, providing financial insights to drive growth and profitability.
- Collaborate with commercial, retail, supply chain, and HR teams to provide financial expertise and decision support.
- Coach and mentor finance team members, building a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
What you have
- Experience: 10–15 years of combined finance and accounting experience, with proven track record as Financial Controller or Senior Finance Manager
- Technical Expertise: Strong background in GL, FP&A;, treasury, taxation, and statutory compliance.
- Experience in retail, FMCG, or inventory-driven industries preferred; audit firm background is a plus.
- Demonstrated success in leading finance teams and overseeing AR, AP, GL, and reporting.
- Leadership & Collaboration: Inclusive leadership style, strong business partnering skills, and ability to coach and mentor.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in ERP systems, MS Excel, PowerPoint; knowledge of consolidation software (HFM) and Workday is an advantage.
- Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills with a hands-on, positive attitude.
