About the team –
AIS Clinical Services provides system leadership and clinical support to Australia's high-performance system, including National Sporting Organisations (NSOs), the National Institutes Network (NIN), coaches and athletes. AIS Clinical Services operates on a flexible and agile model to provide the right support to the right athletes at the right time. All functions of AIS Clinical Services are aligned with ASC strategic objectives to achieve sustainable success of Australia's high-performance athletes in the international arena. AIS Clinical Services provides system leadership on matters of integrity, the health & welfare of athletes and excellence in delivery of clinical services.

About the role –
This role provides nursing support to the AIS Sports Medicine Department. You would report to the AIS Lead Physician, under guidance from the full-time AIS Registered Nurse. You would be required to:

1. Work autonomously to provide high-quality evidence-based nursing support to Australian high-performance athletes.

* Use clinical skill and knowledge to independently refer athletes, as appropriate, to medical practitioners.
* Conduct therapeutic and diagnostic activities as requested by and in collaboration with AIS medical practitioners.
* Contribute to monitoring and management of local infectious disease outbreaks, including collaboration as appropriate with Public Health Authorities.
* Provide nursing support as required to collaborative AIS clinical research projects.
* Provide travel health and immunisation services to the high-performance sport system.
* Contribute to the review of nursing practice and clinical policies and procedures to ensure evidence-based best practice.
* Assist in the provision of education sessions and training to athletes, coaches and high-performance sport partners in wound management, travel health and other relevant areas.
* Manage the storage and administering of medications and vaccines.
* Assist in the organising of referrals and external medical appointments.

2. Work collaboratively as part of a high performing team/organisation, establishing and maintaining effective partnerships with key internal and/or external stakeholders to deliver high quality business outcomes.
3. Actively promote and role model the ASC values of Excellence, Integrity, Respect and Teamwork, and contribute to positive organisational change, effective communication, and continuous improvement at the ASC.

About you –
We are looking for a skilled and motivated Registered Nurse with excellent attention to detail and professionalism.

The successful candidate will have:

* Current APHRA registration as a Registered Nurse
* Current basic life support (BLS) certificate
* Level 1 Anti-Doping e-learning course
* Previous experience working with athletes and adolescents preferred
* Proficiency in health assessment skills, in particular the ability to competently perform venepuncture, intravenous cannulation, conduct ECGs and conduct respiratory function testing is preferred
* Competency in fields relevant to sport and exercise medicine practice, including sports first aid, emergency care, wound management, infection control, administering of medication, reproductive and sexual health issues, provision of immunisations, and travel health issues
* Proficiency in the use of information management technology systems to inform clinical care management
* An understanding and knowledge of anti-doping issues, legislations, and related contemporary issues
* Demonstrated communication, interpersonal, and liaison skills with a proven ability to build and maintain effective relationships with others
* A proven ability to effectively work as part of a small team
* The ability to establish good relationships with patients/athletes, their families, team support personnel, coaches, and other members of the sports medicine team

* To be eligible for this position applicants are required to be Australian citizens only and must be able to obtain and maintain an AGSVA Security Clearance.
