About the Role
Humble Cafe is seeking an experienced and motivated Sous Chef to support the Head Chef and lead our kitchen team in Southport. This role is ideal for someone who can manage a fast‑paced cafe kitchen, maintain high standards, and handle multiple responsibilities with confidence and professionalism.
As the Sous Chef, you will be the second‑in‑command in the kitchen, overseeing daily operations, ensuring consistency in food quality, and supporting the Head Chef with menu execution and team coordination. You will play a key role in maintaining an efficient, organised, and positive kitchen environment.
Key Responsibilities
* Assist the Head Chef in supervising and leading the kitchen team
* Manage kitchen operations during service, ensuring smooth workflow and timing
* Oversee preparation, cooking, and plating to maintain high-quality standards
* Train, guide, and support junior chefs, apprentices, and kitchen hands
* Maintain food safety and hygiene standards, ensuring full compliance
* Assist with ordering, stock management, organisation of dry store and cold storage
* Handle multiple tasks during busy periods while staying calm and focused
* Step in to lead the kitchen in the absence of the Head Chef
* Work closely with front‑of‑house to ensure efficient communication and service flow
* Help refine recipes, improve kitchen systems, and enhance menu consistency
Required Skills & Qualifications
* Minimum 4–5 years of professional kitchen experience, including leadership experience
* Strong multi-tasking ability and confidence in high-pressure environments
* Excellent understanding of café-style food preparation and service standards
* Solid knowledge of food safety, hygiene, and kitchen organisational systems
* Great communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team
* Reliable, responsible, disciplined, and committed to maintaining consistency
* Ability to train and support junior team members with patience and clarity
* Flexibility to work weekdays and weekends as needed
