About the role:
Focus Minerals is currently seeking an
Underground Mining Engineer - Ventilation
to join them on an
8/6 roster
based at site. You will be responsible for fulfilling the statutory responsibilities of an Underground Ventilation Officer as required under WHS legislation, while ensuring the cost-effective, efficient, and safe delivery of assigned projects in line with schedule requirements. The role will also support short- to mid-term planning activities and provide assistance with drill and blast functions as required.
Key Responsibilities Include
* Planning and implementing an underground ventilation system that meets the requirements of the WHS (Mines) Regulation 2022 outlined in Schedule 26.
* Develop, implement and maintain the Underground Ventilation Control Plan compliant to the requirements of the WHS legislation.
* Monitoring atmospheric conditions in the underground part of the mine, having regard to the hazards and risks assessed and identified for the part of the mine.
* Maintaining records of the monitoring of atmospheric conditions of all workplaces.
* Maintaining the ventilation plan prepared for the underground mine under regulation 656 of the WHS (Mines) Regulation 2022.
* Advising the Underground Manager and Alternate of deficiencies in the underground ventilation system and precautions to be taken because of those deficiencies.
* Collaborate with underground mining supervisors and crews to provide ventilation awareness and instructions for the execution of ventilation works.
* Participate in emergency response planning and drills, ensuring robust ventilation procedures are in place.
* Complete mining capital infrastructure and mining efficiency improvement projects as assigned.
* In addition to the ventilation officer responsibilities, carry out short to mid-term planning and drilling and blasting work as assigned.
Qualifications, Skills & Experience
* Bachelor Mining Engineering Degree.
* Minimum of 2 years' experience in an underground operation with a minimum of 6 months as an Underground Ventilation Officer.
* Needs to complete an approved WHS risk management unit for underground Ventilation Officers.
* Need to pass an applicable legislation examination for underground ventilation officers.
* Proficient in the use and application of mine planning software including Ventsim Modelling and Deswik.
* Knowledge of underground ventilation systems.
* Experience in narrow to wide orebody gold mining.
