Senior Storage Infrastructure Specialist - ACT Baseline
Senior Storage Infrastructure Specialist for a 3‑month contract. This role will optimise a recently upgraded Dell PowerScale and Isilon storage environment, ensuring high performance, scalability and reliability for petabyte‑scale Media & Entertainment workflows, including ingest, editing, archival and retrieval.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct a comprehensive technical audit and produce a report outlining current storage architecture, health, risks, and improvement recommendations.
- Develop clear architecture diagrams covering cluster design, storage tiering, and data services.
- Create detailed operational runbooks for administration, troubleshooting, and maintenance.
- Provide capacity and growth forecast reports with recommendations to support scalability.
- Deliver structured knowledge transfer sessions to ICT staff for continuity and operational readiness.
Technical Scope
- Review and optimise configuration across all‑flash, archive and legacy PowerScale/Isilon nodes.
- Analyse and enhance data services including SmartPools, SnapshotIQ, SyncIQ, SmartQoS and tiering strategies.
- Identify and resolve storage performance bottlenecks (I/O, metadata, SMB/NFS throughput).
- Recommend architectural improvements for performance, utilisation and reliability.
- Produce clear documentation for implementation, operations and lifecycle management.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Demonstrated experience designing, administering and optimising Dell PowerScale and Isilon (OneFS 8.x/9.x) in large enterprise or high‑performance environments.
- Strong understanding of scale‑out NAS architecture, storage tiering and enterprise data services.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues across multi‑protocol storage systems (SMB/NFS).
- Excellent communication and documentation skills, with the ability to translate technical findings into transparent recommendations and communicate with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
- Experience developing technical documentation, runbooks, architecture diagrams, and operational guidance.
- Knowledge of storage security, data protection, access controls, replication, backup and recovery practices.
Desirable Skills
- Scripting (Python/Bash) for automation, monitoring and data analysis.
- Experience working in high‑throughput media, archival, or data‑intensive technical environments.
