Release and Configuration Manager
This is an exciting opportunity for a seasoned software engineer to take on a leadership role in the release and configuration function of a significant defence program. As Release & Team Lead, you will be responsible for planning and managing release schedules, overseeing build and deployment pipelines, and developing governance processes to ensure consistency, quality, and compliance across the lifecycle.
About the Role
* Plan and manage release schedules, coordinating across integration, verification & validation (V&V), and delivery teams.
* Oversee build and deployment pipelines, ensuring smooth promotion through environments.
* Develop and enforce release governance processes, balancing speed with quality and compliance.
* Identify, track, and mitigate release-related risks and dependencies.
* Define and refine processes that maintain configuration control across the program.
* Ensure software elements are correctly baselined and integrated into the Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system.
* Champion best practice in CI/CD pipelines, version control, and change management.
* Lead configuration audits and guide developers through issue resolution.
* Mentor and support team members, embedding a culture of continuous improvement.
Requirements
* Degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, or similar—or equivalent release/configuration experience.
* Strong skills in release management, scheduling, and stakeholder coordination.
* Hands-on experience with CI/CD tools (e.g. GitLab pipelines).
* Proven experience with version control and repository management (e.g. GitLab, Nexus).
* Solid understanding of Agile/DevSecOps practices.
* Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to guide technical teams and influence stakeholders.
* An Australian NV-1 security clearance and ability to access/handle Export Controlled technology, data and information.
* Prior experience as a Release Manager or Build Manager in large-scale software projects.
* Familiarity with containerisation/orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
* Knowledge of configuration management in regulated or safety-critical industries (e.g. defence, aerospace).
