MC Earthmoving is looking for an HSEQ Officer who knows that real safety happens on the ground, not just in a spreadsheet.
If you believe safety is about listening first, consulting always, and backing your crews, you'll feel at home here.
If you think HSEQ is about confrontation, clipboards and telling people they're wrong – this probably isn't your gig.
Who We Are
MC Earthmoving delivers bulk earthworks, quarry overburden removal, dam construction and upgrades, wetlands, subdivisions and major civil works across Victoria.
We're practical, straight-talking, and proud of our people. We believe safety should make people's jobs easier, not harder – and our HSEQ team is expected to be part of the crew, not above it.
About the Role (The Real Version)
This is a hands-on, site-based HSEQ role. You'll spend time walking jobs, talking to operators, checking in with Foremen, working alongside HR and Managers, and actually understanding how work gets done.
You'll be just as comfortable:
· Sitting in a crib hut listening to a Foreman who's had a long week
· Picking up a broom or helping tidy a site
· Running audits
· Managing ISO systems
· Investigating incidents and closing actions
Consultation over confrontation is how we do safety at MC Earthmoving.
What You'll Be Responsible For
Safety Culture (The Important Stuff)
· Building trust with crews, Foremen and site leadership
· Promoting a safety culture people actually believe in
· Leading health and safety initiatives with the goal of zero LTIs
· Incidents, Risks & Learning
· Investigating incidents, near misses and unsafe conditions
· Finding practical, workable solutions – not band-aids
· Closing corrective and preventative actions properly
· IMS & ISO (Yes, We Still Do This Properly)
· Owning and maintaining our Integrated Management System
· Keeping us compliant with ISO 9001, 14001, 45001 and AS/NZS 4801
· Preparing for audits without everyone panicking
· Training, Inductions & Toolbox Talks
· Running inductions that people actually pay attention to
· Leading monthly toolbox talks that don't make eyes glaze over
· Managing competencies, tickets and training (Assignar experience a bonus)
· SWMS, Audits & Site Support
· Writing SWMS that reflect real work, not copy-paste templates
· Conducting site audits with a solutions-focused mindset
· Supporting crews and supervisors to do things right
· People Support & Collaboration
· Working closely with HR on WorkCover and Return-to-Work
· Supporting Managers and Foremen rather than policing them
· Helping people through tough weeks, not adding to them
Who We're Looking For
You'll do well in this role if you are:
* Practical and approachable – people talk to you because they trust you
* Self-driven – you see problems and fix them without being chased
* Willing to learn – even if you've been doing HSEQ for years
* Comfortable on site, in PPE, and in real conversations
* Confident working across civil, earthworks and mining environments
* You'll bring:
* Tertiary qualifications in WHS / HSEQ or strong industry experience
* Experience with ISO 9001, 14001 and 45001
* Solid SWMS and policy development experience
* Strong working knowledge of WHS legislation
* Civil construction or earthworks experience (highly regarded)
What You Won't Be
* A clipboard-only HSEQ officer
* Someone who hides in the office
* Someone who leads with blame instead of solutions
Why MC Earthmoving?
Because here:
* Safety is respected, not resented
* HSEQ has a real voice
* We offer attractive salary packages + incentives
* People matter as much as compliance
* You're trusted to do your job properly
* You will be part of a great crew culture - hardworking but easy-going
* You will be in a workplace where you are appreciated for what you do
* There are opportunities to learn, grow, and take on more responsibility
You will need to pass a pre-employment medical and be comfortable working in all weather conditions - hot, cold, windy, dusty - you name it, we work through it.
If this sounds like you, we would love to hear from you.
