About the Role
The Band 7 Principal Business Statutory Planner oversees the delivery of business-related planning services, including coordination with related partner departments, the assessment of permit applications and the provision of advice to internal and external stakeholders. Holding a robust and varied workload, the successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to team discussions and assist with process improvement projects.

About You
To be considered for this exciting opportunity, the City of Ballarat is seeking a town planning professional with an excellent knowledge of the Victoria Planning Provisions, a commercial focus and a positive attitude.
Key Selection Criteria
* A recognised tertiary qualification in statutory planning or closely related discipline;
* Demonstrated experience in a similar role, working with and implementing the Victoria Planning Provisions and related legislation; and
* Current Victorian driver's licence
* Advanced stakeholder management, relationship building and proactive communication skills with the ability to manage competing expectations, handle conflict and to clearly articulate ideas and proposals.
* Proven experience in the leadership and development of staff by coaching, motivating and influencing.
* Ability to identify complex problems and circumstances, identify possible solutions and make consistent decisions based on a clear and logical analysis of the Ballarat Planning Scheme and relevant legislation.
* A proven ability to provide high-level customer service in a timely and professional manner.
* Well-developed interpersonal skills with the ability to liaise and communicate with all levels of management, Councillors, colleagues and the public.
* Demonstrated experience in identifying and implementing process improvements in order to achieve Council's corporate objectives.
* Demonstrated ability to negotiate and mediate high-quality solutions to complex statutory planning problems, often in the face of broad opposition.
* Relevant experience in preparing and delivering submissions and successfully negotiating on behalf of Council at the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal.
