Fixed-Term Contract – Parental Leave Cover (March 2026 – Jan 2027)

QED Environmental Services is seeking a Quality Manager & WHS Officer to join our team on a fixed-term parental leave contract from March 2026 until early-mid January 2027.
This role is ideal for someone who has worked within chemistry, laboratory services, environmental consulting or the built environment, and understands the unique quality, safety and compliance risks associated with technical, regulated and field-based work.
You will be supported by a comprehensive handover with the substantive role holder before and after the leave period, ensuring you have what you need to feel confident in the role.

About the Role
Reporting directly to the Managing Director, this senior role is responsible for maintaining and continuously improving QED’s Quality Management System (QMS) and Work Health and Safety (WHS) systems.
While the role has no direct reports, it holds strong cross-functional influence and works closely with leaders and employees across the business to ensure compliance, consistency and a proactive quality and safety culture.
Key Responsibilities
Quality & WHS Systems
* Maintain and improve QED’s QMS and WHS systems in line with applicable standards, legislation and accreditation requirements.
* Manage document control, versioning and accessibility of all quality and safety documentation.
* Maintain equipment registers and ensure calibration, inspection and records are current and accurate.
Audits & Compliance
* Coordinate internal audits and manage external audit processes end-to-end.
* Act as the primary liaison with external auditors and regulatory bodies.
* Support teams to document, implement and close out corrective actions.
Continuous Improvement & Safety Culture
* Ensure QMS and WHS systems reflect operational practices and evolving compliance obligations.
* Promote quality and WHS awareness through training, education and practical support.
* Monitor and support psychosocial hazard initiatives, including workload, role clarity and respectful behaviour.
Reporting & Governance
* Prepare reports for the Managing Director, Board and PCBU as required.
* Deliver annual management review reports addressing compliance, impartiality and confidentiality.
* Act as the designated whistleblower contact for QMS and WHS matters.
About You
You are confident working independently, comfortable influencing without authority, and bring a practical, solutions-focused approach to quality and safety.
Essential
* 2+ years’ experience in a Quality, WHS or compliance-focused role.
* Working knowledge of WHS legislation.
* Experience working within or managing a Quality Management System.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills.
* High attention to detail and strong document control capability.
* Intermediate Microsoft 365 skills.
* Relevant degree and/or equivalent practical experience.
Desirable
* Background in chemistry, laboratory services, environmental consulting, built environment or similar technical industry.
* Experience with laboratory or inspection-based operations.
* Training or presentation experience.
* Implementation of OR power-user of Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
