Spectrum Space is a not-for-profit organisation that provides a range of services for autistic people. We see incredible potential in autistic young people. Our mission is to deliver high-quality services for autistic young Western Australians, supporting them to connect confidently with others and the world around them. Using a strengths-based approach, we offer a range of social programs for young people and adults aged 10 to 30. These programs provide opportunities to make new friends, engage in activities that reflect individual interests, and build new skills such as computer coding, arts and crafts, or cooking. Excursions may include activities such as Bounce, Laser Tag, or fishing trips. Every program is unique.
As a social group volunteer, you will be responsible for:
* Assisting with the supervision of autistic participants
* Preparing materials and setting up the environment for activities, as well as packing up afterwards
* Encouraging participants to engage with one another and take part in activities
* Recording weekly observations, goals, and case notes throughout the term
The following skills and attributes are desirable, but not essential:
* Ability to engage participants independently and assist with set-up, pack-up, and group activities
* Ability to support children, teenagers, and young adults with disability
* Ability to follow detailed instructions
* Ability to maintain confidentiality
* Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills
If you are passionate about supporting autistic people and would like to develop your skills while working with people from a wide range of backgrounds, we would love to hear from you.
