Remuneration: Broadband 5/6, level 5 from $88,717, level 6 from $103,866 plus 17% super.

Location: UNSW Canberra, ADFA Campus.

Why Your Role Matters

The School of Science is one of six Schools at UNSW Canberra and comprises approximately 50 academic staff and 60 postgraduate students supported by 15 professional and technical staff. The school encompasses the disciplines of Aviation, Chemistry, Geography, Mathematics & Statistics, Oceanography and Physics. Under the direction of the School Manager, the Academic Support Officer provides support to academic staff and assists in the effective delivery of the teaching and research activities of the school.

Accountabilities

We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Academic Support Officer to enable the school's strategic direction by supporting academic staff and senior leadership. This role provides high-level operational and administrative support, including academic and student support financial (including student reimbursements, travel bookings and guidance interpreting local policy and procedures) and digital communications. It also provides pastoral care to HDR students through orientation, progress reviews, and general guidance.

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong organisational and communication skills, manage competing priorities, and foster collaborative relationships with university colleagues, Defence, and industry stakeholders.

Who You Are (skills and experience)

At Level 5

* The completion of a degree without relevant work experience, or a completion of an associate diploma with work experience, or an equivalent level of knowledge gained through any other combination of education training and/or experience.
* Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
* Proficiency in a range of computing skills including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, internet, email, and a demonstrated ability to learn and implement new systems.
* The ability to work independently with minimal supervision and work productively as part of a team.
* Demonstrated ability to produce accurate, timely and well-presented information that meets the requirements of the business.
* An understanding of and commitment to UNSW's aims, objectives and values in action, together with relevant policies and guidelines.

At Level 6 (in addition to Level 5 skills and experience)

* Demonstrated relevant knowledge and proven ability to apply knowledge and experience to manage, analyse and resolve tasks of varying complexity such as developing, applying, interpreting, and advising policies, systems, manuals, rules, procedures, and guidelines effectively and efficiently.
* Demonstrated highly developed organisational skills and proven ability to establish priorities, work within strict deadlines, communicate on both technical and non-technical levels, negotiate with influence in a complex organisation.
* Ability to plan, organise and co-ordinate projects and tasks and lead workplace initiatives.
