The role also involves mentoring and supervising cooks and kitchen assistants, providing hands-on training to maintain consistency across all food preparation and presentation. * Supervise, train, and support cooks and kitchen hands, providing practical guidance on cooking methods, hygiene practices, and time management to help them build skill and confidence.
* Work closely with the Head Chef to plan ingredient requirements, place supplier orders, check deliveries, and manage stock rotation to minimise waste.
* Ensure all ingredients and prepared items are stored, labelled, and handled safely, maintaining freshness and compliance with health standards.
* Encourage teamwork and clear communication between kitchen and front-of-house staff to ensure quick, accurate, and professional service.
* Participate in menu reviews, staff briefings, and kitchen meetings to share feedback and continuously improve food quality and workflow.
* Maintain a clean, well-organised, and safe kitchen at all times, following proper sanitation procedures and upholding the café's commitment to quality and professionalism.
