Backyard Co is a well-known cafe restaurant in Footscray in VIC. They are a popular establishment with a grocery joint in the area with a reputation for quality food. They are looking for an experienced Cook to join their team.
The Role
This is for a full time role with an annual salary of $77,000 plus superannuation. The role is based in Footscray in VIC.
Responsibilities
* Prepare, cook, and present menu items in accordance with the approved restaurant menu and quality standards. * Cook a variety of dishes under the guidance of the Head Chef using methods such as pan-frying, grilling, deep-frying, steaming, boiling, and roasting. * Ensure all food is prepared with correct portion sizes, garnishing, sauces, and plating to maintain consistency and presentation standards. * Examine food before service to ensure freshness, quality, taste, and visual appeal. * Regulate and monitor temperatures of ovens, grills, fryers, and other kitchen equipment to ensure safe and efficient operation. * Maintain kitchen equipment in good working condition and promptly report any maintenance issues to management. * Set up and stock kitchen stations with required ingredients, sauces, and supplies prior to service. * Maintain accurate inventory records of food, ingredients, and kitchen supplies; assist with ordering raw materials as per operational needs. * Work cooperatively with kitchen staff to ensure timely preparation and service of menu items. * Assist the Head Chef and Restaurant Manager in reviewing the menu and contributing to seasonal or special menu updates. * Follow all OH&S and food safety standards to ensure safe, hygienic kitchen operations at all times. * Clean and maintain kitchen work areas, utensils, and equipment in line with hygiene regulations. * Support overall kitchen operations to ensure smooth service during peak and non-peak periods.
Requirements
* At least a Certificate 4 qualification in commercial cookery * Minimum 2 years of cookery experience in a commercial kitchen * At least 2 years' experience of cooking on the grill * At least 2 years' experience in preparing meals that cater to various dietary restrictions, such as gluten-free, vegan, or nut-free options. * Must be able to cook different proteins including seafood, beef, lamb and pork * Passion for great food and presentation * Understanding of, and commitment to, food safety * Experience in kitchen operations and in managing a team * Experience in training kitchen staff
