We are seeking a dedicated Gardener to join our team at St Basil's Homes (SA) - an aged care facility committed to providing a safe, welcoming, and vibrant environment for our residents. This is a permanent part-time position, working 2 days a week (or as per agreed flexible working arrangements) - perfect for someone who values work-life balance.
As our Gardener, you will be responsible for the daily upkeep and creative enhancement of our facility's outdoor areas. Your tasks will include maintaining lawns, flower beds, shrubs, and trees, as well as ensuring pathways and outdoor spaces are safe and accessible for all residents. You will have the opportunity to design and implement seasonal planting schemes, contribute to the aesthetic appeal of our grounds, and interact with residents who share your passion for plants.
What you'll do and be responsible for:
* Grounds Maintenance: Mowing lawns, trimming hedges, pruning shrubs and trees, weeding, mulching, and watering.
* Gardening: Planting and maintaining flowers, vegetables, and herbs. Planning and executing seasonal displays to bring colour and interest to the gardens year-round.
* Safety and Accessibility: Keeping pathways clear and safe, ensuring outdoor furniture and structures are in good condition, and reporting hazards promptly.
* Resident Engagement: Supporting resident gardening groups and facilitating horticultural activities to enhance wellbeing and community spirit.
* General Grounds Care: Maintaining courtyards, patios, and communal outdoor spaces to a high standard.
* Sustainability: Implementing environmentally friendly practices such as composting and water-wise gardening
* Equipment Maintenance: Caring for gardening tools and machinery, ensuring everything is clean, safe, and well-maintained.
We are looking for someone who is not only skilled in gardening, but also has a genuine interest in enriching the lives of older adults. You should be reliable, self-motivated, and able to work autonomously as well as part of a friendly team. Your creativity and attention to detail will help us keep our gardens vibrant and inviting throughout the year.
What you'll need to succeed:
* Proven experience in gardening, landscaping, or grounds maintenance
* Knowledge of plant care, garden design, and seasonal horticultural tasks
* Physical fitness and ability to undertake manual tasks outdoors
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
* Ability to work independently and manage your own schedule
