As Senior Software Engineer, you will work across a significant legacy codebase while contributing to a multi-year transformation that will take our technology into a more scalable, cloud-aligned future.
This role suits someone who has grown within structured engineering environments surrounded by other senior engineers, where clear processes, quality standards and strong engineering discipline are a normal part of delivery.
You will bring solid PHP capability, strong systems thinking and the ability to collaborate across cross-functional teams on complex technical problems.
Your work will span the development, management and optimisation of our ecommerce platform, backend services and operational tools that support production, fulfilment and customer care.
You will help uplift legacy systems while contributing to the design of new, modernised solutions.
What You'll Do
Develop, maintain and improve our ecommerce web front and supporting backend platforms
Support the modernisation of the technology stack and contribute to continuous improvement of tools and systems
Work across legacy and new components with a focus on stability, performance and code quality
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to clarify requirements, solve problems and deliver high quality outcomes
Participate in design and architecture discussions, contributing clear thinking both at high level and low level
Implement clean PHP functions and components that are efficient, predictable and performance aware
Integrate third-party services, APIs and payment gateways
Apply strong problem solving to backend behaviour, data flows and operational tools across fulfilment and customer care
Contribute to engineering best practice including CI and CD, testing, system optimisation and analytics integration
About You
We are looking for a technically strong and disciplined Senior Software Engineer who thrives in structured engineering environments and enjoys solving complex, high impact problems.
*Only candidates with proven PHP experience will be considered*
Minimum five years PHP experience which is essential
Experience with PHP 5 to 8 and strong SQL capability
Solid Javascript experience with exposure to modern frameworks
Background working in teams with multiple senior engineers and established engineering processes
Strong grounding in system behaviour, algorithms, performance and application design
Comfortable working across Linux or Windows Server environments
Experience consuming and integrating REST or SOAP web services
Excellent communication skills and confidence partnering with cross-functional teams
Experience with ecommerce platforms or transactional systems is beneficial
Exposure to modernisation or uplift programs is valuable
No GCP experience required
