Mossman State High School is seeking a dedicated, compassionate and proactive Guidance Officer who is looking to embrace the opportunity to be part of our school and broader community.

In this role you will support student mental health, build resilience and foster a safe, inclusive school environment. This is a Full-time position commencing January 2026.

About the School:

Our school is at the heart of the Douglas Shire, based in the small township of Mossman. Our shire covers a large geographic area from the rainforest to the reef, with the majority of our students travelling by bus from the surrounding areas.

About the Role:

In this role, you will work closley with students, families and staff to provide expret advice, deliver proactive programs and foster a safe and inclusive school environment.

Responsibilities include, but not limited to:

* Provide counselling, assessment, and support: Deliver individual and group counselling, psychoeducational assessments, and tailored recommendations to support students' educational, behavioural, career, mental health, and family needs.
* Collaborate within multidisciplinary teams: Work effectively with parents, school staff, and external agencies to deliver comprehensive case management, referral services, and support programs that promote student wellbeing and engagement.
* Facilitate educational planning and intervention: Conduct assessments and observations to identify learning, developmental, and psychological needs, and assist in implementing appropriate interventions, adjustments, and individualised education or behaviour plans.
* Promote student safety, development, and career pathways: Lead and contribute to student protection, behaviour support, gifted education, and career planning initiatives, including SET planning and transitions between educational settings.
* Maintain professional standards and leadership: Uphold ethical and legal obligations regarding confidentiality and record keeping, participate in professional development, and provide leadership in responding to critical incidents and intensive behaviour support needs.
