Platform Engineer
The Role: As a Platform Engineer, you will provide crucial technical guidance for business initiatives, leading and delivering robust infrastructure solutions. This role involves transforming, modernising, and supporting Auto & General's critical workloads across both on-premise infrastructure and hybrid cloud environments.
You will be instrumental in developing platform roadmaps, planning and implementing changes to enhance infrastructure performance, meet audit and security requirements, and participating in system patching and upgrades with a focus on continuous improvement. A key aspect of this role is also undertaking new education and learning opportunities to strengthen the infrastructure footprint and sharing knowledge across technology teams.
Your New Team: You will join our Technical Services team within the Technology division, specifically in Technical Infrastructure, reporting directly to the Technical Services Team Leader in Toowong. This team is at the forefront of ensuring high performance, reliability, and security across all A&G applications and infrastructure, working closely with various technical teams to deliver rapid, high-quality solutions.
Key Responsibilities
* Contribute to infrastructure platforms to meet current and future organisational needs.
* Provide responsive and specialist technical support as a Subject Matter Expert.
* Share knowledge to develop technical roadmaps and lead project planning and improvement initiatives.
* Drive continuous improvement in infrastructure performance, reliability, scalability, efficiency, and security.
* Participate in cloud migration processes, evaluating and recommending new technologies.
* Collaborate with the DevOps team to automate deployment and maintenance processes.
* Implement and maintain monitoring, logging, and alerting tools for proactive issue resolution.
* Contribute to the maintenance and improvement of the Infrastructure Technology knowledge base and procedures.
* Build capability in junior staff through training, coaching, and mentoring.
* Act as a Level 3 escalation point for critical and intricate problems.
* Ensure compliance with security policies, industry standards, and regulations.
* Maintain awareness and compliance with Company policies and procedures.
* Undertake studies of new technologies and innovations to drive infrastructure evolution.
Qualifications & Experience (Essential)
* Demonstrable solid understanding and practical experience of relevant system administration, operations, support and solutions implementation.
* Ability to articulate technical solutions to business stakeholders and technical teams.
* Advanced hands-on system administration, problem-solving, and knowledge of two or more of the following technologies:
o NetApp ONTAP
o AWS S3 and AWS FSx file systems
o VMware vSphere
o DELL PowerEdge or similar HCI solutions
o AWS Compute Services
o Microsoft SQL Server
o AWS Database Services
o Cohesity Data Protect
o Microsoft AD DS
o Windows Server
* Knowledge of systems security, administration practices, standards, and policies.
* Experience with systems automation, scheduling, and scripting.
* Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
* Experience with an agile framework.
* Familiarity with CPS234 or ISO27002 (or similar) frameworks.
Desirable
* One or more industry-recognised technical certifications within AWS, VMware, Cohesity, NetApp, DELL, or Microsoft.
* CIS Benchmark experience.
* Experience with enterprise monitoring suites such as New Relic or similar.
* Knowledge and experience in Infrastructure Architecture principles.
