The Team:

The Wilfred Lopes Centre is a specialised forensic mental health facility located in Hobart, Tasmania. The Centre provides care and treatment for individuals with mental health conditions who are involved in the criminal justice system or individuals who may require specialist care due to risk to themselves or others.

As an integral part of the Tasmanian Health Service, we have been tasked with the responsibility of caring for people who may be the most complex and challenging patients in our service. We provide our patients with appropriate treatment, in a multidisciplinary context, in an environment that is caring, ensuring the safety of our patients, members of our staff and the community.

All members of staff at the Wilfred Lopes Centre have important roles to play in the provision of care to our patients and we respect the roles and contributions of each individual staff member.

The Role:

As part of the primary care health team, provide direct and indirect nursing care based on best practice principles and within a collaborative and multidisciplinary team.

Participate in the development and revision of organisational documentation and policies and procedures relating to nursing based best practice.

Participate in and contribute to a learning environment, through continuing education and training, professional development and attendance at conferences and relevant forums.

You will need:

* Current knowledge of, and the ability to apply nursing principles, procedures and practices in the delivery of patient/client care in a designated area and in line with legal requirements and the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Council National Competency Standards for the Registered Nurse.
* Knowledge and understanding of the psycho-social and health needs of individuals and their application to nursing practice in a forensic setting, including an understanding of the principles of maintaining appropriate therapeutic relationships with patients. A sound knowledge of psychotropic drugs, actions and side effects.
* Relevant experience in a mental health area and/or experience in a forensic health setting and/or a secure, acute mental health facility. Knowledge of relevant legislation.

Details of appointment:

Permanent, part time, shift worker position, working up to 60. 8 hours per fortnight, commencing as soon as possible.

*notwithstanding hours to be negotiated with the successful applicant.

Applicants should note that, for a period of twelve months from the date of publication, this selection process may be used to fill subsequent or similar full time, part time, and casual vacancies.

Salary: $78,179 to $105,995 per a nnum pro rata. Our E mployer 12% superannuation contribution is on top of this amount.

* Salary range is in accordance with Nurses and Midwives (Tasmania State Service) Agreement 2023.

Access to the Grade 4 salary range $99,455- $105,995 is subject to successful application for progression to Grade 4

In addition, the following allowances calculated on the salaried incremental point may be available:

* Post Graduate Allowance of up to 10 % based on qualification type

Salary Packaging:

You’ll have access to salary package a range of benefits including living expenses up to $9,010 + $2,650 in meal entertainment each FBT year + other benefits if eligible.

Correctional Allowances:

* Correctional allowance of 6.5%

Eligibility:

Successful applicants will be required to meet the essential criteria:

* Registered with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia as a Registered Nurse

Applicants should note the following criteria are desirable:

* Possess, or be working towards, a specialist tertiary graduate or postgraduate mental health/psychiatric nursing qualification, or completed prior to the transfer of nurse education to the tertiary sector, a hospital based training program that resulted in previous registration as a psychiatric nurse by the relevant nurse registration authority within Australia, New Zealand, Canada or the United Kingdom
