Package includes salary ($83,755.00 - $89,515.00), employer's contribution to superannuation and 8.5% loading for working weekends and public holidays.

About the role

National Parks and Wildlife Service has a unique opportunity for a Field Supervisor to work as part of the team and contribute towards the conservation of the natural environment, flora, fauna and Aboriginal heritage. Field Supervisors coordinate and supervise the field team in the delivery of field operations for NPWS. Working closely with the Team Leader Field Operations/Senior Field Supervisor, the role ensures the efficient and safe undertaking of works and maintenance duties across the Area. The supervisor contributes to the planning, prioritisation and scheduling of works and undertakes administrative and record‐keeping duties. This hands‐on role involves pest and wild dog management, fire management, weed control, road maintenance, visitor engagement, construction and maintenance of visitor areas and other infrastructure, protection of Aboriginal cultural heritage sites, and the operation and maintenance of plant and equipment. The role involves a rotating roster, with work on weekends and public holidays.

About You

As a supervisor, you will have experience managing a dynamic team and juggling multiple projects. Your organisational skills, adaptability, communication skills, and ability to liaise with diverse stakeholders are essential. You will work with Rangers and contractors to ensure the delivery of programs and priority projects, collaborating and motivating to achieve outcomes. Frequent travel to remote locations and the ability to solve problems independently will also be required, as will leadership of projects alongside other team members.

Essential Requirements

  • Current Australian Class C Driver's licence or equivalent.
  • Well‐developed supervisory and team leadership skills for the implementation of field and operational activities, including construction and maintenance of walking tracks and park facilities, and pest plant and animal control.
  • Experience in cost estimation, budgeting, planning and programming.
  • Detailed knowledge of various trades.
  • Experience undertaking crew leadership in fire management.
  • Relevant SafeWork NSW certification and experience operating machinery, plant and equipment for maintenance/construction work, including chainsaws to basic tree‐felling standard.
  • Must meet medical assessment requirements, including clearance to undertake the fitness test for firefighting fitness roles (moderate level Task‐Based Assessment for Firefighters) within the 12‐month probationary period, if relevant.
  • Must obtain certification at the appropriate level before undertaking firefighting/incident control duties:
    • Certification as Fire Crew Member.
    • Senior First Aid and 4WD certification.
    • Nationwide firefighting competencies (ground or aerial) maintained at required levels.
