About the Role
Engineering at Micro‑X encompasses the development of core technology tubes and high voltage generators, the manufacturing and test systems to produce the core technology, development of mechanical, electrical and software solutions for Micro‑X’s product lines, and contracted development for bespoke customer imaging subsystems. The Engineering team is a multi‑discipline team covering many areas of mechanical, electronics, high voltage, operating software, imaging software, applied maths, physics and chemistry. The team has a range of skills and experience from interns to Principal engineers. To support focused development, Micro‑X Engineering has dedicated system engineering and technical project leads to manage programs.
Responsibilities
Deliver mechanical engineering designs for mechanical systems, sub‑systems and components across Micro‑X projects.
Apply DFMA principles to ensure manufacturability, serviceability, sustainability, performance, and safety.
Conduct analytical, numerical (e.g. structural/thermal), and experimental problem‑solving.
Plan and execute functional and reliability test programs.
Provide sustaining engineering, cost reduction initiatives, and customer support.
Contribute to development processes and support for best‑practice engineering tools.
Collaborative with cross‑functional teams, (electronics, software, systems).
Manage technical relationships with external design partners and suppliers.
Support project scheduling, budgeting, and program planning.
Maintain engineering standards of quality, cost, safety, performance, and timeliness.
Manage configuration and change control for design outputs.
Support and improve the Micro‑X quality system.
Liaise with customers and internal stakeholders to drive customer‑centric solutions.
Skills, Experience & Attributes
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/Mechatronics engineering equivalent suitable for membership of Engineers Australia.
5 to 8 years’ mechanical engineering experience.
Strong mechanical design and DFMA expertise (CNC, sheet metal, welding injection moulding).
Hands‑on problem‑solving ability.
Proficient in 3D CAD/2D drafting (SolidWorks and PDM preferred).
Knowledge of GD&T and technical drawing standards.
Experience with FEA/CFD for structural and thermal analysis.
Strong communication and cross‑functional teamwork skills.
Experience overseeing contractors or external collaborators.
Highly regarded
End‑to‑end product lifecycle experience from prototype to commercialisation.
Background in complex product development medical, automotive, security, consumer).
Demonstrated experience in working with metal / ceramic e.g. machining, welding, brazing, and ceramic metallizing.
Fast prototyping skills with low‑cost manufacturing techniques.
Demonstrated experience in navigating dynamic and fluid work environments.
