Aged Care: Where Physio & OTs go when they've given up…
* Occupational Therapist & Physiotherapist
* Multiple Locations NOR & SOR Perth
* Not For Profit Aged Care Provider
The Myth
I hear it all the time. A candidate once told me Aged Care is "where you go to retire or for your skills to expire."
For a long time, that perception wasn't far off. OTs & Physios were seen as glorified massage therapists, stuck in a funding model that didn't value clinical skills. My hands are going numb just thinking about it.
But the landscape has shifted, and some organisations are leading the charge. They're proving that Aged Care isn't a dead end, but a frontier for Allied Health Professionals who want to make a genuine, lasting impact.
My client is one of them. A Pioneer in Aged Care, if you will. And I'm looking for an Occupational Therapist and a Physiotherapist to join their team.
The Role
This isn't your old-school, tick-a-box Allied Health role. You won't be spending your days just trying to hit a massage quota until your arms fall off. This is about real clinical work.
It's about reablement programs, strength & balance, and building relationships with residents you'll see multiple times a week.
This is a role where you will see the tangible results of your work every day. You will have the clinical autonomy to:
* Create Safer Havens: Become a trusted partner in our residents' homes, conducting thoughtful environmental assessments to prevent falls, introduce practical assistive technologies, and empower them to navigate their space with greater safety and confidence.
* Restore Meaningful Activity: Develop holistic, evidence-based reablement programs that help residents regain and maintain the ability to perform daily activities, from preparing a cup of tea to tending their garden, that are central to their identity and wellbeing.
* Champion Mobility and Connection: Implement tailored plans focused on managing pain, improving strength and balance, and maintaining the mobility that connects residents to their friends, family, and community.
* Provide Cognitive Support: For residents living with dementia or cognitive change, you will design strategies and introduce aids that simplify tasks, reduce frustration, and support their continued engagement in a dignified manner.
* Educate and Empower: Serve as a clinical leader, providing essential training and guidance to residents, their families, and our care staff on safe manual handling, energy conservation techniques, and effective therapeutic strategies.
The Clients:
Our clients are committed to fostering an environment where clinical excellence flourishes. With them, you will find:
* A Collaborative, Multidisciplinary Culture: You will work alongside a dedicated team of nurses, GPs, and other allied health professionals, contributing to comprehensive care plans in a setting that values your clinical reasoning and input.
* A Focus on Professional Growth: We support your career journey with opportunities for ongoing education, mentorship, and development in specialized areas of aged care gerontology.
* The Resources of a Leader: As a stable provider with a long history in the sector, they offer the job security and resources you need to deliver the best possible outcomes for your residents.
The Criteria
* Tertiary qualification in Occupational Therapy / Physiotherapy.
* Full AHPRA Registration
* Full working rights in Australia
* Demonstrated experience in developing and implementing evidence-based therapy programs.
* A compassionate, person-centred approach to care.
If you're ready to challenge the perception of Aged Care and build a career with an organisation that invests in its people, I want to hear from you.
