The Chief of Staff is responsible for running the newsgathering operation of the newsroom. They identify the key stories to cover, assign reporters, deploy camera crews across the day and respond to breaking news. They will work closely with the Executive Producer and the News Director to maintain the competitive advantage of Nine News.
Day to day you will:
* Curate daily story lists in collaboration with senior editorial leadership.
* Monitor diverse media platforms to identify and action breaking news.
* Direct and manage reporters and field crews to ensure seamless coverage.
* Coordinate cross-platform content with the social media production team.
* Lead daily story meetings to plan immediate and future news cycles.
* Provide editorial guidance to ensure all content meets rigorous standards.
* Mentor team members on newsroom systems, processes, and story development.
What you'll bring:
* Prior experience in a senior newsroom leadership or reporting role.
* Exceptional organisational skills with a proven ability to meet tight deadlines.
* Resilience and the ability to maintain composure in high‑pressure environments.
* Refined communication skills that foster open and productive team dialogue.
* Sharp attention to detail across all editorial and operational tasks.
* A collaborative mindset with the ability to lead or work independently.
* Expert knowledge of modern newsgathering techniques and broadcast technology.
