We are looking to fill a number of immediate vacancies at EL1 level in the Economic Policy Branch, as well as establish a merit list for future vacancies across Austrade’s Government and Policy Division.
We are looking for engaged, innovative and enthusiastic team players with demonstrated experience building and maintaining good relationships across teams and agencies. You must be keen to work in a rapid-paced, diverse and cross-cultural workplace and network to produce tangible and practical outcomes. You will work in an agile and flexible structure, in strategic partnership with Austrade’s business-facing teams across key markets and sectors, so that public policy and services are shaped by commercial knowledge and real-world insights.
You will inform key government trade and investment policy development and other government agencies’ development of related policies and strategies; and support continued Austrade alignment with government policy priorities relevant to Austrade’s mandate. The roles will contribute to Australia’s prosperity, economic resilience and economic security, and will provide opportunities for you to support Austrade’s engagement in policy areas related to:
- economic security,
- simplifying trade,
- the transition to net zero,
- and Australia’s international relationships.
The key duties of the position include:
You would work with Austrade’s global network as the interface between other government departments/agencies and Austrade’s business-facing teams onshore and offshore to:
- Engage with and support team members to provide innovative, creative policy advice to achieve investment outcomes, as well as timely information and advice to the Austrade network to facilitate delivery of outcomes to support Australian Government priorities.
- Build and maintain networks to engage regularly with other relevant government departments/agencies to ensure Austrade’s position is relayed in whole-of-government policy initiatives, and influence and support the government’s investment priorities.
- Coordinate and develop Austrade’s input into key areas impacting Australia’s economic security including investment, skilled workforce and skilled migration, critical minerals investment, critical technologies and cyber security.
- Deliver high-quality data-driven briefing, analysis and policy advice to the Minister and Austrade Senior Executive to inform and influence government deliberations and outcomes on investment issues.
- Work closely with internal stakeholders across Austrade, including the Trade & Investment Divisions and Visitor Economy Division.

- Australian citizenship – our successful candidate must be an Australian citizen.
- Security clearance – our successful candidate is required to hold, or have the ability to obtain, and maintain a Negative Vetting Level 1 security clearance.
