About The Department Of Employment And Workplace Relations

We are committed to empowering futures, ensuring rights and enriching lives. We support people to have safe, secure and well-paid work with the skills for a sustainable future as we ourselves strive to be a model employer.

We provide the framework for fair and productive relationships between employers and employees. We also oversee skills development and training initiatives to support those entering the workforce or re-training to take advantage of emerging employment opportunities.

With us, your work directly contributes to shaping the employment landscape. Whether you are engaging in policy development, program implementation, or direct support services, your efforts will have a tangible impact on job seekers, employees and the economy by giving them a framework to build a future anchored and realised through employment.

It is our ambition to do things differently, to create the 'department of great jobs'– where our people reflect our purpose.

The Role

Do you like building relationships and solving problems to make a difference to people's lives? Got great networks in your community? Interested in working for the department but not wanting to move to Canberra? Then this may be the role you have been looking for. This is not a standard 'desk' job. The position is based in the North and North Western Tasmania region, with a focus on making sure local needs are addressed, and local voices inform government policy and programs.

As an Australian Government Job Coordinator, reporting to the Tasmania State Office, your role will focus on addressing workforce needs across North and North Western Tasmania. You'll work closely with local businesses and communities, engaging directly with people to uncover opportunities and create practical, tailored solutions. A key part of your responsibilities will be developing a Local Jobs Plan and collaborating with a Local Jobs and Skills Taskforce to launch initiatives that reflect the region's specific needs and promote employment. Your efforts will have a meaningful impact on the lives of people in the local community.

No two days will be the same—you'll often be on the road, engaging with people across the region. This role requires strong self-sufficiency, initiative, and a passion for helping others collaborate and achieve results for the community. You'll be equipped to work remotely, with a mobile phone, laptop, and access to a car provided.

This role requires you to be physically based in the region, with availability for in-person meetings and community engagement at least four days per week. Some meetings may fall outside standard office hours, and occasional after-hours work within the region is expected.

Duties And Responsibilities

Your role is part of the existing Local Jobs Program. As an Australian Government Job Coordinator (formerly an Employment Facilitator), you will bring together key stakeholders including employers, employment services providers, and education and training organisations to collaboratively address the challenges and opportunities in the region.

Along with a dedicated Program Officer, you will establish and work with a local taskforce to identify regional jobs and skills priorities and work to achieve them.

You will need to understand the various supports and opportunities offered by all levels of government, to help people build skills and move into employment. This may involve coordinating supports, identifying service gaps, and working collaboratively to address them. You will play a key role in helping the community access funding to address national and local priorities.

As An Australian Government Job Coordinator, You Will
* Support the employment priorities of the region by building and sustaining productive and collaborative working relationships with employment service providers, training and industry providers, peak body organisations, employers, community organisations and education providers to maximise support for all job seekers.
* Work with industry, employers and local stakeholders, to design and develop community driven employment and training projects that create opportunities for job seekers with local employers that result in employment outcomes.
* Drive engagement and discussion between Australian Government agencies, state government, councils and community-based organisations to understand what the community needs to deliver effective employment and skills initiatives.
* Collate and share relevant information and evidence with the Department to support employment services reform.
* Based on your understanding of community needs, drive initiatives, provide advice and inform policy development so that government initiatives work for and make a practical difference to those who need it.
* Respond to retrenchment and structural adjustment events that impacts jobs as part of the Transition Support Network.

Qualifications and Education
* A driver's licence is essential for this role and home internet is essential.
* A Working with Vulnerable People check (or ability to attain one) is essential for this role.
