The Team
Northern Tasmanian Pathology Service (NTPS) provides pathology services to Launceston General Hospital and the northern regions of Tasmania. NTPS is the only public pathology service in North Tasmania, delivering high‐quality service to general practitioners, medical specialists and private hospitals, with no out‐of‐pocket expenses for Medicare‐eligible tests.
The Role
This role supports the Staff Specialist Microbiologist by providing clinical and diagnostic advice to Pathology and the Infectious Diseases physician team at LGH, and covers their leave.
Responsibilities
* Provide clinical and diagnostic advice to Pathology and ID physician teams.
* Coordinate with hospital infectious diseases service and infection control unit.
* Communicate critical microbiology results to treating teams.
* Manage bench‐level activities of the clinical microbiology service.
* Teach and conduct research.
* Maintain laboratory safety protocols.
Qualifications
* Experience managing a clinical microbiology service, including bench‐level advice.
* Strong communication skills for conveying critical results.
* Preparedness for regular interaction with infectious diseases and infection control units.
* Teaching and research experience.
* Knowledge of laboratory safety.
Eligibility
* Holds specialist registration.
* Registered medical practitioner, an International Medical Graduate on the specialist pathway.
* Registered medical practitioner, an IMG with a recognised overseas specialist qualification and sufficient experience.
* Current Working with Children Registration where applicable.
