Structural Engineer - Design (Intermediate)
Baigents is a well-established consulting engineering practice with nearly 40 years' experience delivering structural and civil design solutions across the commercial, retail, industrial, and infrastructure sectors. With a strong reputation in the local market, we are seeking an experienced Structural Design Engineer to join our team.
The Role
You will play a key role in the design and delivery of a diverse range of projects, working with autonomy and support from senior engineers. This role suits an engineer ready to take greater ownership of technical delivery and progress toward a senior position.
Key Responsibilities
* Design steel, reinforced and post-tensioned concrete, and timber structures.
* Prepare calculations, sketches, mark-ups, and independently check drawings in accordance with Australian Standards and the NCC.
* Liaise with site teams and respond to RFIs, providing practical design solutions.
* Undertake site inspections and provide construction-phase support.
* Coordinate with engineers, drafters, and consultants to deliver projects efficiently.
* Take ownership of technical outcomes and apply a proactive, solutions-focused approach.
* Progress toward CPEng and registration.
About You
* Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
* 4–6 years of Australian experience working in structural engineering
* Strong knowledge of Australian Standards and the NCC.
* Experience in concrete, steel, and timber design.
* Familiar with software such as ETABS, SPACEGASS, Strand7, RAPT, IDEA StatiCa, or similar.
* Strong communication skills and confidence dealing with site teams and consultants.
* Exposure to civil design will be highly valued
* Well organised, proactive, and comfortable taking ownership of work.
* Progress toward or attainment of CPEng and Victorian registration highly regarded.
